Duty of Care

Spirit of Oysterhaven is licensed by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport as a Passenger Vessel under the Comsail regulations for Sail Training. Spirit is licensed for 12 client crew (crewmembers) plus up to three professional crew (Spirit Crew). The skipper holds a Yachtmaster Offshore qualification with commercial endorsement.

Every activity on board Spirit of Oysterhaven is governed by a set of Safety Operating Procedures, which have been approved by the Department of Transport. These procedures aim to mitigate, as far as possible, any risks associated with being at sea. As Spirit of Oysterhaven is a Sail Training vessel, instruction is an intrinsic element of every crewmember’s experience, covering not just seamanship skills, but also boat and personal safety procedures. On arrival on board the Skipper will brief all crewmembers on safety and emergency procedures.

All crew on board Spirit apply the principles of the Irish Sports Council’s Code of Ethics.
