Voyage Dates:
21st - 25th August 2017                       Teenagers Age 15 - 17 years
28th August - 2nd September 2017    Young Adults Age 18 - 25 Years

Normal cost: €500 per person

Cost with sponsorship: €100 per person .We aim to provide these voyages for young people who otherwise may not have the opportunity to go on board, understandably the €100 fee may not be achievable for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, therefore we will reduce/waive the fee in appropriate circumstances providing a reference letter is accompanied with the application.

Who can take part?

This adventure of a lifetime is available to teenagers aged 15- 17 and young adults aged 18-25 from the broader Cork area. The scheme is implemented through organisations that work with young people such as youth and community groups, scouts, clubs etc. These bodies act as references for the young people who wish to take part. These organisations must nominate participants that they feel are in need of or will benefit from such an experience. The organisations will be asked to provide a reference and any relevant information about the participants.

Trainees can expect to be fully involved in the sailing of the ship, from hoisting sails, to operating winches, to steering a course. As well as sailing the ship the trainees will learn to work as a team to plan the voyage, learn to study the weather, predict tides and navigate to their destination. While at the same time keeping the boat ship-shape. All carried out under the watchful eye of the permanent crew. The experience promotes self-confidence, enhances self-esteem and develops leadership, teamwork and communication skills. It is adventurous, fun and challenging and they are likely to make new friends for life, learn about themselves and their team and develop new life-skills
